Best Propane Mosquito Trap Reviews
1. Blue Rhino SkeeterVac SV5100 Mosquito Eliminator
Most Effective Mosquito Trap
Blue Rhino is a popular go-to choice for people who are residing in a place with a damp climate. Meaning, everyone living in marshy regions either has heard of Blue Rhino or owns a Blue Rhino product.
SV5100 is built for mass mosquito extermination, and it’s going to take a lot of fuel for this to happen.
So yeah, if you’re staying in some Southern dry state, you’re going to shell out a bit of money as the gas price won’t be given justice.
Pricey, But Competitive
Speaking of prices, this has a competitive edge. They aren’t well-known just because of their effectiveness, but also because this is cheaper than other familiar brands like Mosquito Magnet, for example.
SkeeterVac, manufactured by Blue Rhino, is an affordable solution to pesky mosquitoes, black flies, and gnats. These TacTrap Replacements make keeping yourself and your family safe from pesky bugs easier than ever.
How It Works
It delivers a neat FineTune baiting system that changes a typical, clean-burning fuel into kickass CO2 gas that lures in mosquitoes into its trap.
You can easily adjust SV5100 to match the specified species within your area.
Once the mosquito attractant and the mosquito itsel match, its Vac&Tac tapping system steals the show away with its powerhouse vacuum and sticky paper traps.Er, you also don’t have to worry about any mosquitoes flying away after it has been given the Grim Reaper’s kiss.
The whole process is simple, you can immediately start to eliminate them by placing it in a shady spot. By the way, make sure you keep it in check thru its security spikes (it’s included.)
It appears that SkeeterVac SV5100 utilizes a convenient electronic ignition to give you a quick and trouble-free start.
It would be best to make use of its rain cover for protection purposes. I’m talking about keeping it away from the elements and children.
Assembly and Portability
The assembly process doesn’t take much time, which is a huge plus. On average, I would only spend 3-5 minutes for assembly and maintenance. And yeah, don’t worry about tools, there’s no need for any of ‘em.Little things are always appreciated, its wheeled cart helps a lot with its portability factor, and the handle makes transportation easier. Bring it anywhere, SkeeterVac SV5100 has your back wherever.
Coverage and Wait Time
Now, I’m not saying we’ve found the holy grail of traps for mosquitoes – you’re still going to have to wait for at least four to six weeks from the date of operation to see any significant changes.
It may take a bit of time, but it covers an entire acre, so I think it’s a fair deal. But seriously though, this is a must-get for people who want to secure a football field.
Interestingly enough, it has one of the largest coverage available to date.
Although that we’re mainly talking about mosquitoes, SV5100 can do more than just kill one species. Modify its motion lightning feature to seduce a broader variety of insects.
Pros
- Increases capture rate more than any other brand
- Delivers quiet and odorless experience
- Doesn’t have the need for cords

2. Mosquito Magnet MM4200 Patriot
Good Mosquito Trap for First Time Users
You know how I roll, I hate having to deal with complicated procedures, so I was really glad when Mosquito Magnet MM4200 managed to come up with something so simple for beginners. It doesn’t demand any special attention, all you need to do is to push the button, and you can start getting rid of dem mosquitos all day, every day.
From what I’ve experienced, the length of the power cord is a huge problem for most households. That’s why the guys at Mosquito Magnet hit some pretty sweet spot when they made an awesome 50-foot, 12V power cord.
You don’t have to worry about the machine’s placement. It can easily be situated far away from the family area (save your kiddies!) and near the breeding nests of mosquito and other insects. And before I forget, the package comes with lawn clips to make sure that the power cord is secured. Here’s what ticks me off though, it needs the right upwind placement for it to work. But once you’ve got that in the bag, a biting mosquito is no longer a threat to your flawless skin – my skin is perfect AF.
It’s made of heavy-duty plastic, the ones that you can put your trust on. It’s the right combination of high-quality plastic and marine-grade materials, that’s built to take on harsh conditions like they’re nothing.
Assuming you’re someone who wants to cover a large area (maximum of one acre) then this gets the job done for you.
For desirable results though, you need to at least get it up and running for the next twenty-four hours.
This way, you’re breaking their breeding cycle, which sucks for them vampire-like insects. Naturally, you can expect results to be noticeable within the day.
It usually takes up to 7-10 working days before you can see any high impact.
Mosquito Magnet is a company that runs their CounterFlow Technology. Thru the use of this awesomely created technology, the trap produces an accurate plume of CO2. In addition, it emits moisture and heat as well. While this whole charade is going on, it sucks the mosquito going to the net. Once they’re in the trap – well, let’s just say their miserable lives are about to end within the next 24 hours.

- Long power chord means you can put it almost anywhere
- Effectively breaks the cycle of mosquitoes
- Easy to assemble (your grandma can do it)

6. Flowtron MT-125 Mosquito PowerTrap
There’s a lot to say about MT-125. First thing’s first, it’s safe and economical. It uses bright LEDs and a powerful vacuum to attract and suck mosquitoes in. For my first run with Flowtron, I was pretty satisfied.
It eliminates flying mosquito pests without having to worry about sticky mess. However, the fun ended after a year of operation.
The fan went haywire within a year, and while I have no problem with replacing it as it does cover all three specs (LPG, octenol, and sounds/lights) their customer care totally sucks.
Reaching out to the manufacturing is a hassle, the only possible approach you take to have your fan replacement is to send them a cheque. It’s quite alarming how there are a lot of people who have the same fan issue, but the company is not doing anything to get it right. If it weren’t for their half-assed service, I’d gladly keep this any day.
Pros
- Safe to use and cheap price tag
- Uses bright LED lights and powerful vacuum
- Stays away from sticky mess
Cons
- Multiple reports of fan failure
- Customer service isn’t satisfying
This indoor mosquito trap has a LED light that attracts mosquitoes. The propane tank comes with a handy indicator, so you know when you need a refill.
What Is A Propane Powered Mosquito Trap?
Mosquitoes aren’t the greatest insects in the world. As a matter of fact, these guys can be annoying as well.
As someone who has been a victim of Dengue fever, I wasn’t so happy when I was faced with my hospital bills. Plus the damn hallucinations when my fever reached 104 degrees will haunt me forever. So, it’s pretty understandable that companies are selling a lot of products that work to kill mosquitoes.
Right now, manufacturers are in a pretty tough competition with each other. Every single year, there are more of these mosquito traps in the market.
The moment you hit the purchase button, you’re making an investment for your home.
To be more specific, it’s an investment for the comfort, health, and safety (because these guys can kill) of your household.
So yeah, a propane traps for mosquitoes kills the killers. But, don’t think that all of the mosquito traps are able to give the same performance. Just like with everything else, there are no two products that are similar whether it’s for indoor and outdoor use. There are some that can actually kill mosquitoes consistently at a remarkable pace, and while there are others that need a bit of push. We have to think about the price when choosing one as well – going for a more expensive brand doesn’t hurt if you’re after quality.
Research Found on Propane Traps For Mosquitoes
A soldier installing a propane-powered mosquito trap. This one looks like a Mosquito Magnet Executive
The good news is that there are scientists who have conducted their own research about mosquito traps. They mainly talked about the which ones are the most ideal in what situations. It seems that Dr. Daniel Kline found something interesting in his research study entitled “Large Cage and Field Comparison Tests of Mega-Catch™ and Mosquito Magnet™ Traps“.
They have stated how these are the ideal machines that are capable of killing thousands of mosquito in just one night. Although based on personal experience, upon the date the machine started working, you’re going to need at least 2 months of buffer time to totally eliminate a local mosquito population.
I will probably take this study with a grain of salt, but nevertheless, the results are pretty promising. But there’s something you should know about, it doesn’t matter how awesome the outcome of the study is, there’s no denying the fact that no single brand can deal with your mosquito concerns. Yup, even the most expensive brand there is. Generally speaking, the best mosquito control programs use a unique integrated approach that minimizes the breeding sites of pesky mosquitos together with an effective trapping device.
How Does The A Propane Trap For Mosquitoes Work?
First, Understand How Mosquitoes Find Food
Before I start talking about the mechanics of mosquito traps, I’ll give you some fun details about how to catch mosquitoes.
Did you know that female mosquito fly twenty-five feet off the ground? But the weird part is, I live 24 floors above ground and I still get a ton of mosquitoes during rainy days and/or summer season which is definitely the mosquito season! The girls of the squad (yes, males are largely herbivores – only females need nutrition from blood to nourish eggs) have a number of sensing organs of different types to help them out. Usually, this is what they use to find their prey. Let’s talk about what they have in store:
Anatomy of a Mosquito. Credit: Wikimedia.org
Antennae. Mosquitos have this peculiar equipment with them that allows them to follow the carbon dioxide released from a human’s lungs. In addition, it has the feature of getting at least 340 chemical odors made by your skin, such as octanol (you usually find this substance when you’re sweating.)Compound Eyes. Personally, I find this characteristic to be really cool. These are literally just hundreds of tiny lenses.
Think of it as having your personal spy camera, designed to monitor your every single move. While it would have been really cool to have one for yourself, it gets annoying when you’re the prey. Day-biters are usually the ones taking advantage of this most as they use visual cues for assistance. Also, let’s not forget about its two light-sensitive simple eyes. Maxillary Palpus. This is what you can find at the top of the mosquitos, and apparently, this portion is rather sensitive to heat.
In other words, this is what aids them to find warm-blooded prey (just like us) and identify the capillaries nearest to the skin. Instinctively, they go for the ones that can be easily accessed.
Using These Information Against The Buggers
Going back to the original topic, mosquito traps have the purpose of using their own sensory abilities against them. Okay, you already know that mosquitoes technically have superpowers, but they aren’t the smartest creatures around.Copying certain smells and visual cues that usually are connected with humans are what mosquito killers are here for.
There are a number of brands that emit CO2, octanol, heat, light, or basically a machine with a bunch of combination. The goal is to lure ‘em and kill ‘em.
But if you’re living in a place where you badly need to maximize its effectivity, there are some practices you need to follow correctly:
- For instance, placement is everything. For mosquito traps, it should be in shades areas where your mosquito nemesis chill or a location where people hang out outside.
- It’s unlikely you’re going to get it right the first time around, so it would be best to keep on relocating the machine until you have found a spot that works best.
- And as always, try to experiment a bit with several attractants. You’ll be able to tell which ones will work for your neighborhood mosquitoes – if you don’t know your stuff yet, this is the route to go.
How To Set Up A Propane Trap for Mosquitoes
I found a very helpful video on how to set up a mosquito trap, which you can watch below:
Choosing The Best Mosquito Trap
You walk into a store, and you see nothing but rows and of mosquito traps. You’re all set and ready to buy, but you don’t have the faintest idea as to what to buy that fits you perfectly. As much as how it’d be awesome to get whatever you see on the shelves and get it started, this isn’t how the propane traps work. There are currently hundreds of companies that are claiming they produce “high-quality” propane trap…but that’s rarely ever the case. So before you decide to close this site, make sure you have set your mind into these four important factors that would help you out in mosquito elimination.
Area Or Coverage
Before you start randomly pressing buttons to make your purchase online ready, you need to think about the area you’re dealing with. Are you REALLY sure that a propane-powered mosquito trap is something you’d need?
Linking back what we’ve covered in this article, propane traps are can be expensive if you don’t use its wide range properly. You need to have at least 300 sq ft. backyard for a propane trap to be worth the investment.
As understood, if there’s more space to cover, the better the quality should your propane powered mosquito trap be. Or you can say you need a handful of ordinary traps with average strength.
Amount of Mosquitoes
Do you think that your yard is filled with nothing but mosquitos? It doesn’t matter if your yard is unable to reach an acre if that’s the case. By any means, you need to haul-ass and kill them on the dot. Choose outdoor traps that have been made for a larger area than your backyard.
This is a re-occurring problem for people who are living in Florida, Alaska, and even Georgia. Residents in these areas have mentioned they own a couple of propane traps due to the “appalling” amount of mosquitoes, and that it’s all worth the hassle.
Power Supply
Assuming you’ve stayed long enough in the mosquito killer market, you may have already noticed that they carry the difference by their means of the power supply. Depending on what you need, it can either be wireless or wired. So, here’s the question: Which is more comfortable? The answer is pretty darn simple – naturally, the wireless traps ones.
The fact that you don’t have to worry about any cords or extension cords is a bonus point for me. Also, its location isn’t something you have to worry about since it can be moved to practically anywhere you want. As far as I’m concerned, not a lot of people are going for the wired modification.
Price
In the earlier part of this article, I’ve mentioned about dealing with prices. It doesn’t hurt to invest more money into these machines as they have more tendency to last longer (based on my experience, at least). So, is choosing a more costly product linked to a more efficient experience? Sure, we can go with that (most products are dependent on its price, anyway) however, it’s certainly not the main factor for its performance.
There are awful ones in the market that are expensive like hell, but they’re poorly constructed. If you think this is the scenario you’re facing, it’s way better to go for cheaper ones that are able to keep up the demands of its job. You can avoid wasting your money by paying close attention to the manufacturer or brand. Brand names tend to positively correlate with quality in this market.
From there, you’ll be able to tell a lot about the company’s credibility and history of product lines. In addition, reading professional reviews (just like this one) helps a lot as well.
Propane Mosquito Traps: Wrapping Things Up
Finally – we’ve conquered this article, and hopefully, we can reclaim your backyard’s peacefulness once again. There are a number of things you need to be aware of when you’re taking care of your home. And to be honest, mosquitoes should be at the top of your priority list. Assuming you have kids running around the yard, and the place is filled with filthy mosquitoes, you’re actually inviting them to come and join in the party.
The problem is….it’s their party, and you’re the main course meal. Don’t get me started with the diseases it can bring to your household. Trust me, it’s not worth it. While you may think there are cheaper alternatives of eliminating mosquitoes, this time around, it’s better to think of effectivity rather than cost-effectivity.
Going for the best propane mosquito trap is one big investment. Like what I’ve said, these machines don’t come cheap. However, this would make a really good choice if you have a large area you need to take care of.
